Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos
What
is Kiwanis?
-
Kiwanis
International
is a worldwide service organization
with more than 350,000 members in more than 81 countries.
Membership affords men and women the opportunity to
become personally involved in community betterment projects.
- "Kiwanis"
is a Native American term meaning "self expression"
or "having a good time and make noise" (Our
members prefer the latter!) The Kiwanis motto is "We
Build" and through our club’s activities, we are
building a better community.
- Kiwanis is not a secret society or political organization.
Nor is it a religious movement, although it honors the
great religious teachings and fosters high moral principles.
- The secret of Kiwanis is widely known. It is a formula
for success based on the remarkable enthusiasm of good
people for a good cause undertaken in good company.
Objective of Kiwanis
-
To give primacy to the human and
spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
-
To encourage the daily living of the
Golden Rule in all human relationships.
-
To promote the adoption and
application of higher social, business, and
professional standards.
-
To develop, by precept and example, a
more intelligent, aggressive. and serviceable
citizenship.
-
To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a
practical means to form enduring friendships, to
render altruistic service, and to build better
communities.
-
To cooperate in creating and
maintaining that sound public opinion and high
idealism which make possible the increase of
righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.
