Trouble Shooting

If you can’t establish a connection after running through these steps, try looking at the items listed below, however different PC Systems, Modems, Browsers may differ slightly from these items:

  • Look in My Computer /Control Panel /Modems /Diagnostics.
  • Click on the Com port showing your modem and click More Info, this will test for a response from your modem.
  • Look in My Computer /Control Panel/Modems /Diagnostics.
  • Click on the Com port showing your modem and click More Info, this will test for a response from your modem.
  • In Modems /Properties /Connection uncheck all the settings for Call Preferences, set the modem speed to 115200 and uncheck Connect at only this speed.
  • It’s usually better to setup a new Dial-Up Connection than to modify an existing one, if you’re having problems after modifying an existing setup, delete it and create a new one. You will have to do the same for any existing e-mail accounts.
  • Some Windows systems need a ‘null password’, so if ‘Save password’ and ‘Connect automatically’ are greyed out in the dial-in connection box and you can’t save your password, delete all files with the extension .pwl in the Windows folder and reboot. When the system reboots and the Enter password screen appears, do not type in a password and then press Enter.
  • Some systems will grey out the ‘Save password’ checkbox if they have Dial-up Networking installed but Microsoft or Netware Networking has not been installed. To fix this go to Control Panel, Networking and install the Client for Microsoft Networking.
